Highport Helm – June 23, 2016

Uncategorized

Greetings Highport Members,

We are working with Marine Development Inc. (MDI) to begin installation of our new, state-of-the-art breakwater system on Thursday, June 23, 2016. This is a significant and very time-consuming project, and will take approximately 6 weeks to complete. MDI has been fabricating the enormous sections of the breakwater system for months, and will start to transport them to Highport Marina this week.

They will be utilizing the far east portion of the boat ramp for storage, assembly and water access during the 6-week construction process. Each section of the massive breakwater system will be assembled on land and pushed into the water. Then, each assembled 40′ section will be floated out to its GPS-coordinated position where it will be anchored to pre-poured concrete anchors.

Every effort will be made to minimize impact of this process on our members. But, with any construction project of this magnitude we ask for your patience and understanding if you should be inconvenienced in any way.

We have also commenced removal of the existing breakwater, and will continue to do so until all sections have been moved to the north point under the Highport Sign. Once this is complete, the breakwater will be removed from the property and salvaged. We will coordinate all efforts to make this process as seamless as possible. Note: no work will be done on the breakwater system during 4th of July weekend!

I also wanted to update you on all the repairs from the past couple of years’ drought, flood and wind damages as per my letter earlier this spring. I have again listed below all the areas of committed improvements that we have completed, are currently working on, or have planned. It’s so easy to forget how far we have come in just a few short months from the devastating damages caused by the 2014 Drought, and then the 2015 Flood and Wind Event.

  1. Completed top to bottom renovation of “The Island Bar & Grill”
  2. Removal of aged, in-ground fuel tanks and pumps, and replaced with state-of-the-art above-ground “Convault” Fuel System
  3. All property pole lights have all been replaced or repaired to date with the exception of the first 4-5 pole lights as you first enter the marina property. Due to the fact that 1 of the main anterior poles was hit by a vehicle and damaged power lines to others, we will be running new electrical cable to these lights in the coming weeks.
  4. Sea Wall and Retaining Wall repairs at the Fuel Dock, “The Island”, and in front of “Big Blue” have been completed.
  5. Road and parking lot repairs are ongoing. A-1 Asphalt has repaired numerous pot holes and completed sealant and gravel overlays. More gravel will be added to heavy sealant areas now that weather has heated up this coming week. We are also in the process of expanding the gravel parking lots to the north of J, K, L, M boathouses.
  6. Boathouse signage has been replaced to date, and gangway gate signage will be completed prior to the 4th of July.
  7. Break Water System replacement will commence this week. Old breakwater is being removed, and new prefabricated breakwater system sections will be assembled onsite and installation started this week.
  8. On water repairs are a continuous work in process. Do date, many miscellaneous. boathouse repairs have been accomplished, including boathouse roofing, siding, structural steel, electrical, water and sewer repairs, etc.

It’s always a pleasure seeing our Highport Marina family enjoying the lake, and we look forward to continuing our efforts to deliver you the ultimate lake-living experience.
